Las Vegas, NV - March 11, 2010 — Reeve Store Equipment Co. won an Outstanding Merit for a Tenant Improvement project at the 2010 A.R.E. Sustainability Awards. The award was presented last night during the A.R.E. Design Awards presentation in Las Vegas. This is Reeve’s second ARE Sustainability Award in two years!
The only competition focused on sustainable retail design, the A.R.E. Sustainability Awards honors retail projects for outstanding green building achievement. Now in its second year, the competition drew entries from around the world. Winners ranged from sustainable retail pioneers to first-time green builders. In addition to the Project of the Year Award, this year’s competition resulted in two Grand Prizes, two Outstanding Merits, and three Special Recognitions.
The award was honored to Reeve for their work on the Eco Shoppe in Great Hills Station, Austin, Texas. For this LEED Silver store, 87.5 percent of construction waste was diverted from a landfill. Fixtures of 32 percent recycled content contributed to a 40.2 percent level for store materials overall. Remilled FSC-certified wood from barns and demolished buildings adds rustic charm as flooring and cashwrap surfaces. Low-VOC adhesives and finishes, as well as wood products with no added urea formaldehyde, boost indoor air quality, complementing healthy lifestyle messages printed on recycled paper peppered with wildflower seeds, which can be planted by customers when signs are changed. Reeve's contribution to this project was to provide the metal hardware and custom components utilizing recycled steel content.
Reeve is proud of its association with the Eco Shoppe and its involvement in creating fixtures with forward thinking design and continues to share Eco Shoppe’s commitment to the environment as shown by their recent upgrades to their facilities (see “Green is the New Black” at Reeve) and their efforts to create new ecologically friendly metal finishes.
