Gyford Donation Provides Hands-On Experience for Manufacturing Students

RENO, Nevada – May 21, 2014 – Gyford StandOff Systems, a decorative mounting hardware manufacturer, donated over $16 thousand of new and refurbished machinery and hardware to the Manufacturing Technologies programs at Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC). The contribution will play a pivotal part in training students to repair and program complex automated manufacturing technologies.

“[This] support plays an integral role in our educational mission, and allows the College to provide a higher level of excellence for our deserving students,” said Paula Lee Hobson, executive director of TMCC Foundation and Institutional Advancement.

TMCC’s Manufacturing Technologies programs are designed to build skills crucial to navigate the constantly evolving field of manufacturing, so graduates are prepared for careers in drafting, electronics, industrial systems, machining and production systems. Gyford’s donation will grant these students–current and future–exclusive access to some of the latest and most-used automation technologies in the industry.  

Gyford StandOff Systems’ involvement with TMCC over the years can be attributed to George Lacombe, manufacturing manager at Gyford, who has served on the TMCC welding advisory board for nearly a decade, and currently holds the title as TMCC’s Manufacturing Technology Board Vice Chair. Lacombe says he believes the contribution will give TMCC students a competitive edge in the job market by providing them challenging, hands-on experiences within their education.
